Haematological Profile in Chronic Liver Disease Patients in Geriatric Population: An Observational Study

Background: The incidence of chronic liver disease is increasing worldwide. Common causes include alcohol, hepatitis B and C non-alcoholic fatty (NAFLD). Abnormalities in hematological parameters are common patients with cirrhosis. There paucity data geriatric population diseases.Methods: A pre-structured performa was prepared to collect the demographic that included Age, Gender, Occupation, Area Residence, History present illness (duration illness, bleeding tendencies, abdominal distension, jaundice, oliguria). Peripheral blood smears were assessed for Anisopoikilocytosis, nucleated RBCs morphological type anaemia; Hypersegmented neutrophils, toxic granulation, relative lymphocytosis immature cells/ blasts platelet number morphology.Conclusion: study categorically showed male preponderance Chronic Liver disease. Anaemia prevalent 89% major picture being normocytic normochromic anaemia. Mild moderate thrombocytopenia seen 17% leucopenia 32% patients.
